Overview

Who Qualifies for FST

The Federal Skilled Trades program is the most under-used Express Entry stream — and one of the fastest for qualified tradespeople. You need 2 years of work experience in an eligible skilled trade in the last 5 years and either a Canadian Certificate of Qualification or a full-time job offer of 1+ year.

Many provinces (Ontario, Alberta, BC) provide pathways to obtain a Certificate of Qualification through challenge exams without needing a Canadian apprenticeship — and we coordinate that process for you.

Eligibility
  • 2 years of full-time skilled trades experience in last 5 years
  • Canadian Certificate of Qualification OR a 1-year+ Canadian job offer
  • Language: CLB 5 speaking/listening, CLB 4 reading/writing
  • Proof of settlement funds
Documents
  • Trades certificate or qualifying job offer
  • Reference letters proving the 2 years of trade experience
  • Language test, ECA (optional), passports, medicals, police checks
